Stepping up My Game

This month’s article is more of a ministry update than a topic for you to discuss with your friends, but it’s a big deal and something I want to share. See, starting in March, 2026, I am running games at a local brewery!

The name of the brewery is Old 121, and they recently opened their second location. That location is still gaining regulars, and I talked with the owners about bringing in a few by offering a game night on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. My goal is to grow the game night into a weekly event, but with the teen center game I already run every Tuesday, I want to take it slow. The game I’m running is Daggerheart, and I’m using their Beast Feast campaign frame, modifying some of the story to personalize it for the brewery. Keeping the game on theme will hopefully bring more players in who are already fans of the company.

This is exciting for me because I was a homebrewer for about five years, and I’ve always loved the craft beer community, for many of the same reasons I love the gaming community. I found a lot of crossover between brewing nerds and gaming nerds, and both groups were equally welcoming to me when I joined.

Before anyone asks, I will note that I strongly believe in and affirm what Paul wrote in Ephesians 5:18, which reads, “do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit1.” So I strongly encourage moderation. The great thing about Old 121 is that they have craft sodas, as well. And they’re very good! Their ginger soda may be one of the best things I’ve ever had.

All this to say that I’m stepping up my game. As of this writing, I’m committed to run four recurring games, and I’m playing in a fifth game. Only one game happens every single week, but I’m committed to a lot of events right now, all in the name of bringing God and gaming together!
